Netscape 6 to profit from Microsoft woes

By Sally Watson, 4 April 2000 14:58

NEWS One of the companies at the centre of the Microsoft trial, Netscape Communications, will tomorrow unveil the long-awaited next version of its browser, Netscape 6. The product has been developed from the Mozilla open-source project with the help of a team of independent software developers. Netscape 6 is designed to be compliant with a whole range of operating systems - in particular Linux - and will support mobile devices and PDAs. The company, which once held 90 per cent of the browser market, hopes that Netscape 6, combined with Microsoft's ongoing legal troubles, will help reverse its fortunes.
