NEWS German car giant BMW is planning to streamline its procurement process with a business-to-business (B2B) ecommerce platform from US software firm, Ariba. The intranet-based system electronically aggregates corporate purchasing from each desktop and directs the order to preferred suppliers and online B2B marketplaces at higher-volume prices. In a statement, Dr Horst-Henning Wolf, executive director of worldwide technical purchasing for BMW, said that as well as for e-procurement, the company will use the platform to aggregate spending and consolidate its supplier base. Initial rollout of the platform in Germany is expected to be complete by the autumn. The company eventually plans to deploy the system to BMW's worldwide operations.
