Logic dictates extranet role for Ernst & Young

NEWS Logic, the co-operative organisation for UK oil and gas companies, has appointed Ernst & Young to take over the development of an extranet for its members. The extranet is designed to link members' supply chains for marketing, procurement, payment transactions and product information. A team of people from member companies, including Amec, BP Amoco, Moxbil, Total and Shell UK, developed the initial extranet project. Ernst & Young will now evaluate the existing options and recommend future development. Chris Freeman, chief executive of Logic, said: "The extranet group has demonstrated how an industry co-operation project should work. Members, who are drawn from operators, contractors and suppliers, have put in considerable time and energy to produce an appropriate solution to the industry." Logic was created in 1999 with the aim of using new technology and industry co-operation to save over £1bn in the UK oil and gas sector by 2002.
