NEWS British Airways has joined forces with five major airlines to launch a business-to-business online marketplace for the airline industry. The portal will link carriers with goods and service providers, allowing companies to trade in aircraft components, avionics, engine parts, fuel and maintenance services. According to British Airways the site will handle up to $32bn of supply chain business every year. The six founding members - Air France, American Airlines, British Airways, Continental Airlines, Delta Airlines and United Airlines - will formally launch the site in a few weeks time. The consortium has not yet announced a technology partner for the venture.
