AltaVista's new search engine leaves users raging

NEWS AltaVista has launched additional search engine 'raging.com' in a bid to revitalize the feature as something apart from portals. raging.com will run parallel to AltaVista's main portal but the new site is expected to remain purely a search facility with an uncluttered, simplistic interface. Ed Burt, managing director of the UK based searchengine.com sees Internet search tools increasingly differentiating themselves from portals: "Surfers are often put off by too much information on a portal's page when the only thing they want is to find the correct sites." Burt welcomes the competition: "raging.com will add strength to our business model as a proof that portals are not necessarily the only choice for users."
