Bayer ditches EMC for IBM's great white hope

NEWS Pharmaceuticals manufacturer, Bayer, has ditched its EMC storage system for IBM's Shark Enterprise Storage System. Bayer abandoned the 3430 Symmetrix from EMC because, according to an IBM statement, it caused "too many headaches" and "did not live up to expectations". IBM replaced it with a 1.26TB (terabyte) IBM Shark. The installation will allow Bayer to consolidate data from its IBM RS/6000 and AS/400 servers, which IBM says will assist in making the servers run faster. Shark works with heterogeneous hosts and operating systems including AS/400, Novell NetWare, S/390 and Windows NT.
