NEWS Over half of all US college students now use search tool Napster to find and store the MP3 files. That's one of the findings of a survey by digital media analysts, Webnoize, which discovered that 57 per cent of US students use the free Napster service. It also claims that two-thirds of students spend more time listening to music online than they did this time last year. Napster has already courted controversy this year and is the subject of two lawsuits, from rock band Metallica and rapper Dr Dre, for allegedly facilitating the pirating of music. Napster software lets users locate and share music files stored on users' hard drives. The company denies it is guilty of piracy, and argues it is just a medium for the transfer of information.
