Bull lines up 32-bit technology for its smartcards

NEWS Bull's smartcard division will release its first card using a 32-bit processor in 2001. The company has been working in association with the European MASSC (Multi-Application Secure Smart Card) project to develop the device. Bull claims the increase in chip speed will allow the card to offer more applications and support open systems such as Java. The announcement follows the news that Bull is to open a microprocessor facility in Fareham, UK in 2001. The facility will have a production capacity of 30 million smartcards per year.
