Telenor acquires Sonofon in $1.7bn deal

NEWS Norwegian telephone operator Telenor has acquired a 53.3 per cent stake of Danish mobile operator Sonofon in a deal worth $1.7bn. Sonofon is Denmark's second largest wireless operator with over 900,000 subscribers. The deal will let Telenor participate in the Danish UMTS licence auction via a Sonofon bid. Newspaper reports claim the auction - which will take place later this year - will raise over £1.5bn. For related stories see:
