NEWS Compaq has won a contract to supply London's recently unveiled Royal Opera House with the hardware to run a 700-user network. The box office, website, catering, intranet and email system will be run using Compaq's Deskpro EN PCs and Proliant servers. Every member of staff will now be linked to the internet including performers who will get PC access in their dressing room. IT manager Chris Bruce said the system has modernised and standardised IT at the Royal Opera House and said Compaq was chosen because it offered reduced costs and local technical support.
