NEWS Ericsson and Red Hat are partnering to develop wireless internet access for home surfers. A two-part screen phone operating on Linux is to be launched by the end of the year. It has a base station and the portable screen will be connected to the internet with Bluetooth, the wireless communication technology. The device features Intel's StrongArm Processor, touch screen, speakerphone and email as well as a Netscape browser. Ericsson is expected to launch further products running on Linux later on this year. The International Data Corporation has predicted that shipments of portable access devices will exceed the shipment of PCs by 2005.
