Commerce One partners Broadvision for B2B services

NEWS Broadvision has announced plans to work with emarketplace technology vendor CommerceOne in a move that reflects the shifting focus of ecommerce companies from B2C to B2B. Broadvision procurement applications will be featured on Commerce One's US-based B2B portal, called marketsite.net, where customers gain access to a range of services that allow them to trade with other businesses online. Industry analysts say the alliance is a significant step in the development of marketplace technology and expect to see rapid growth in the near future. Industry expert Andy Tanner Smith at research company Frost Sullivan told silicon.com: "Many business-to-consumer (B2C) companies are increasingly moving towards B2B because of poor success rate in the B2C sector. Broadvision and Intershop are good examples of companies undergoing this transformation." Gary Cooper at Butler research said the B2B market is thriving and partnerships are the innovative way forward. "Broadvision will be bringing its customer base which Commerce One will benefit from." However, Alexander Drobik, VP of ebusiness strategy research, at the Gartner Group was sceptical about the move. "The B2B marketplace is crowded with deals and partnerships. I would like to see what the two companies are really planning to offer, or is it just another cross-selling venture?"
