NEWS German ERP vendor SAP and engineering company Babcock have joined forces to launch an online marketplace for plant and mechanical engineering. The site, called ec4ec.com, is expected to go online in October with an initial investment of E10m (£6m). Giebert Ruehl, CEO at Babcock, claimed the electronic marketplace would help his company "to achieve cost savings in excess of a hundred million marks by 2001". He predicted the company would achieve a target of E150m (£90m) in savings by 2003 through the internet exchange.
