Ecommerce will not alter competition laws

NEWS The Office of Fair Trading has confirmed it does not expect the growth of ecommerce to require changes to current competition laws. An economic discussion paper, carried out in conjunction with Frontier Economics, the advice body for private and public competition regulation, was published today. The paper states that anticompetitive behaviour needs to be monitored closely and, in some cases, may require "adjustment". The paper also suggests that ecommerce will lower the potential for market players to exploit market power by reducing barriers for participation in both B2C and B2B ecommerce.
