HP throws backing behind 'Yellow Pages' project

HP is to join the UDDI project, which aims to establish an online database standard for faster business contacts on the internet.

NEWS HP has been developing its rival technology, E-Speak, for well over a year now, and seemed unwilling to relinquish this investment. Insiders assume that doubts about the extent of potential uptake for E-Speak might have led to the change of heart. UDDI is backed by industry giants IBM, Microsoft and Sun as well as by ebusiness specialist Ariba. HP has not yet published any official decision regarding E-Speak. UDDI is intended to be a 'Yellow Pages' equivalent for business contacts. Participating companies will use a specified format to enter data ranging from their address and field of business to system information such as protocols and document formats. by
