NEWS The Canadian networking company saw revenues rise 42 per cent on the same period last year and profits were up 64 per cent to $574m, excluding acquisitions. However, a jittery market reacted adversely to reports of a decline in US sales and sent the stock plummeting. The fall took its toll on European companies at market opening this morning. French telco Alcatel opened eight per cent down on yesterday's close, a fall widely blamed on Nortel's figures. The falls cap a month of market nerves led by profit warnings and poor results.
