Sun announces Commerce One partnership

Sun is to join forces with ebusiness platform provider Commerce One in a three-year strategic alliance to optimise ecommerce applications for the Solaris server.

NEWS The agreement enables Commerce One to include yet another manufacturer in its range of platforms and allows Sun to offer its hardware to the software vendor's client base. Both manufacturers emphasise that the agreement is not exclusive and Sun will continue to co-operate with Commerce One's rival Ariba. Products optimised for the Solaris operating system include MarketSite, a tool for the management of transactions between customer and supplier, as well as the analysis and supplier modules MarketSet and Enterprise Buyer. Similar products are offered by Iplanet, a Sun/AOL joint venture. Analysts say this puts the hardware manufacturer in a delicate position.
