Gemplus ditches Bangalore in favour of Dubai

French smartcard manufacturer Gemplus is closing its research and development centre in Bangalore, and will relocate to Dubai.

NEWS A company spokeswoman said: "We are going to relocate to Dubai's internet city as it is impractical to have two research centres in the Indian subcontinent. Dubai is more accessible and there are better tax incentives." Directors of the French firm confirmed that the constant growth in salary rates and an increased staff turnover rate had convinced the company to move. Gemplus has been in Bangalore since 1997 and it claimed the relocation will not affect its other commercial departments.
