CA Barcelona jamboree cancelled

Software giant CA has had to cancel its first European user group meeting and exhibition - because the users would rather go to Orlando in summer than Barcelona in winter.

NEWS CA World Barcelona was scheduled for 22 to 24 January. But, the company found most of its European users preferred to go to the main event, CA World 2001 in Orlando. Daniel Gauthier, in charge of the event for CA, said: "We thought this would be a good idea for our [European] clients to have one close to them. But the clients decided that although Orlando was [further away], it offered more and they'd rather go there." Other advantages of the Orlando meeting were that it was a five-day event with more sessions and exhibitors and the Europeans valued the 'interaction' with US clients. CA expects 25,000 people to attend the Orlando conference. However, CA's other regional conference and exhibition, CA World Asia in Shanghai last month, was a success.
