Nokia rumours revitalise Lucent shares

Lucent shares have jumped 12 per cent on news that the company is being linked with a takeover bid from Nokia.

NEWS The shares were up $1.25 to $19.94 yesterday when speculation appeared on the news wires. Analysts have reportedly had Lucent pegged as a likely target for takeover since the company failed to hit financial targets and subsequently saw its share price plummet. The company laid-off its chairman in October and is planning to axe a further eight per cent of its workforce. Both companies have declined to comment on the speculation.
