NEWS Clue 1: Hairstyle number nine should be well-known in the English game. The 'White Feather' has had two spells in the top flight, though each time his stint ended in relegation. Clue 2: Number eight is probably the most famous blonde afro in the world - but then the competition is fairly sparse. It graced the World Cup in 1990, 1994 and 1998. Clue 3: Number seven is a native of Gates' homeland. The improbably coiffeured US captain was a feature of the 1994 World Cup. Clue 4: Number six - as if you need any help with this one - will be lining up against a number of his club mates in one of the opening clashes of the World Cup. Whether his stripe will have changed from red to yellow, we wait to see. Clue 5: Number five - another easy one, we know - has had spells all over Europe at club level but never managed to set the World Cup alight - falling out with fellow players and coaching staff and refusing to take part during USA '94. Clue 6: Pick a slaphead, any slaphead - there are plenty to select - there are two in the current France team. Clue 7: Number three - the classic comb-over, you surely don't need any help with this one. Clue 8: Number two is certainly not the last of the Mohicans - in fact it has given rise to a whole host of copycat hairstyles. Surely this would be Gates' bets bet for increasing his popularity, at least on this side of the Atlantic. Clue 9: Last, but by no means least, its the footballer's footballers' haircut - the uber-barnet, the king of dos. The mullet was bigger in the eighties than a business woman's shoulders, but in the world of football two still managed to stand out from the crowd. Their owners shared the same hairstyle, had rhyming surnames, played for the same club and country and even released a record together, but only one of them launched a penalty high into the Turin sky to dash English hopes for another four years. So, have you worked them all out? Then email your answers to editorial@silicon.com.
