Channel 4 schedules back office integration

Channel 4 has embarked on the biggest IT project in the company's history to redevelop the distribution of its digital content.

NEWS Indian offshore software developer NIIT has won the £3.2m contract to redevelop applications behind Film Four and its newly launched E4 channel. The project is also aimed at migrating legacy data into Java. Channel 4 will integrate its airtime management and advertising system, which controls its main revenue stream, with its invoicing and administration system, said Tony Salt, marketing director at NIIT. "The problem with the system is that it is not well documented or understood and it is rather cumbersome. With this system they can't expand or bolt on without some sort of risk," said Salt. The system will handle more than 99 per cent of Channel Four's revenue, he added. The project is expected to last 21 months.
