NEWS It is being heralded in some quarters as the standard which will finally allow ebusiness to get off the ground. It provides a number of basic protocols, such as the way in which messages can be packaged and understood across the web. ebXML has been brought to the world as a joint venture between UN body Cefact and industry standards group Oasis. A committee voted in favour of the current ebXML specifications in a meeting today in Vienna. However, whilst enjoying broad industry support, ebXML does have a sizeable competitor to overcome. Microsoft's BizTalk Server software fulfils many of the same roles as ebXML, but is not compatible with the standard.
