US e-tailers stand up for themselves

They had to break free...

NEWS Fed up with interference from the government, US e-tailers have formed a coalition to represent their interests. NetChoice, as it has been named, includes ecommerce top dogs such as Ebay and travel site Orbitz. Its main concern is to stave off legislation that will stop manufacturers selling directly to consumers. This will enable car manufacturers, for example, to sell straight to online buyers. NetChoice's argument is that if the consumer wants to buy directly, there should be no legislation impeding this. The coalition will fight to ensure that government policymakers help the ecommerce industry compete on a level playing field. For related new, sees
