NEWS GE's medical information division has signed an ASP hosting deal with Qwest which they estimate will be worth $250m. Qwest will allow hospitals and clinics to remotely store and access medical imaging data in their CyberCenter web hosting facilities. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed, but the companies estimate that over the lifetime of the deal it will bring in over $250m in revenue. GE has been offering ASP-based healthcare applications using telephone networks for over a year, with 50 hospitals already using the service. The Qwest deal will allow GE's healthcare customers to use fibre-optic connections instead. GE hopes to have its offering in every hospital in the US by 2003.
