NEWS IT giants are rallying together to raise relief funds for businesses damaged by last weeks terrorist attacks. Computer Associates has launched a new fund to help children who lost parents in the World Trade Centre collapse. The company kick-started the fund with a $2m donation, along with wireless computer company Symbol Technologies donating a further $1m. Cisco Systems says it has donated $6m to charities in New York and Washington and IBM and Microsoft have contributed $5m each to the September 11 fund, a disaster relief effort organised by US charity the United Way. Microsoft has also pledged $5m in software and consultancy services to organisations working with people in affected areas. Elsewhere in New York recruitment firms are offering IT staffing services free of charge, and technology vendors including United Messaging and PictureTel are donating free web hosting, email and video conferencing services to affected companies. Online funds for the Red Cross hosted by Amazon and Yahoo have already collected over $18m.
