Logica wins £6m satellite contract

Inmarsat picks Logica to wire its network to the mainland...

NEWS Inmarsat has picked Logica to provide the technology to link its satellite network to terrestrial networks. Subscribers to Inmarsat currently get a 64KB transfer rate - the new network will offer up to 432KB of packet switched data. Logica will be responsible for developing and installing equipment to link this network to terrestrial phone subscribers. In an unrelated announcement, Inmarsat said it provided communication services to French emergency services in the wake of the explosion and fire at the fertiliser factory in Toulouse, France.
