6,000 jobs created in RBS call centre push

NEWS The Royal Bank of Scotland is to create 6,000 jobs, as part of a plan to make it easier for customers to talk with call centre agents instead of making them rely on automated systems. RBS is the UK's second largest bank following the merger of the venerable Scottish institution and NatWest, which has been criticised for its telephone banking service. While the job gains mark one of the few bright spots during a murky period across the tech sector and economy in general, the bank has confirmed it will axe a further 2,000 staff - many of whom work in IT - as a result of the integration of the RBS and NatWest operations. Large-scale job cuts were expected once the bloody battle for NatWest - fought between RBS and Bank of Scotland - was decided last year. For related news see:
