NEWS BT Ignite announced plans to open a £90m, 60,000 sq ft data centre in Cardiff. The project, part funded by the Welsh Assembly, will be one of Europe's largest data centres, and is due to be completed in 2002. Most telecoms players are opening data centres to offer value-added data services to boost the revenues they get from their communications offerings. However, the sector has seen some high-profile failures of late, notably the CityReach data centre in London in August.
