Xerox research park gets independence

Birthplace of the mouse and the laser printer...

NEWS Xerox's flagship research centre in Palo Alto will be spun off into an independent company on 1 January 2002. Xerox Parc was the birthplace of the computer mouse and the laser printer among other technologies. Xerox was in talks last year with two venture capitalists but no deal was forthcoming. Xerox is looking to cut its massive debts and selling off the Parc was part of these plans. The company said it is talking to several potential investors.
