NEWS Israeli boffins have developed a revolutionary type of steganography that can host a hidden barcode. Steganography is the science of burying secret messages inside digital pictures. Concealogram was developed by two researchers at Ben Gurion University of the Negev. It allows a two-dimensional barcode to be inserted into any digital image. The image can then be read with a regular scanner. The Concealogram can retain the information even if the image is damaged, the scientists claim. The technology could be used with photo-ID, where the barcode is used to host all of a person's individual vital information. The inventors claim one of the uses of the Concealogram will be to save space in packaging by hiding the barcode inside a logo or label.
