NEWS SAP has ended a licensing agreement with troubled marketplace vendor Commerce One. The partnership, which began back in 2000, saw the two companies jointly sell procurement software. They will also discontinue their joint Enterprise Buyer brand, a mixture of Commerce One's procurement software and SAP's purchasing software. Steve Muddimann, VP marketing EMEA for Ariba, said: "This is the first public indication that this is a very shaky relationship." However, Patrick Meyer, Director of Corporate Communications EMEA at Commerce One, said the "relationship is still the same". He explained that Commerce One wanted to remain open to offers of partnerships with other big players and added "we're not joined at the hip". The two companies joined forces in 2000 to jointly sell and develop online marketplaces. Despite the denials Commerce One saw 22 per cent wiped off its market cap as its shares collapsed on Nasdaq. SAP lost two per cent. SAP currently has a 20 per cent stake in Commerce One.
