Lie detector software to check for email fibs

Can it really understand tone?

NEWS Software designed to sift through emails and pinpoint lies and deceit by picking up on the writer's tone is one of the latest developments from SAS Institute. SAS claims its product, which is due to be launched this week, is capable of running an entire library of text through its detection process in just a few hours, according to a report in the Financial Times. The software works by homing in on basic word patterns and grammatical structures, and then compares them to benchmark sentences.
