Sprint slashes 3,000 jobs

Closes five call centres...

NEWS Sprint is closing five call centres and shedding 3,000 jobs in a cost-cutting exercise. The lost jobs represent around nine per cent of Sprint PCS' workforce. The company will continue to run eight other centres. The one-off $25m charge associated with the redundancies will be reflected in the company's first quarter results. Sprint claims the cuts will result in yearly savings of around $60m.
