DoCoMo 3G network attracts Oracle software

Fat wireless pipes have their allure...

NEWS NTT DoCoMo and Oracle are teaming up to provide DoCoMo customers with mobile versions of the US company's enterprise software. The giants will work together on sales and marketing as well as developing future mobile solutions. Financial details were not disclosed. Existing customers of Japan's largest mobile network will be offered versions of Oracle9i Database with spatial technology, Oracle9i Application Server, Oracle9i Lite and Oracle E-Business Suite. Oracle Japan is looking to take advantage of DoCoMo's expanding 3G network - which it has branded FOMA, for 'Freedom of Multimedia Access' - which should allow the use of heavyweight software. The move follows other tie-ups between software players and mobile operators. Last June, for example, Vodafone and Microsoft teamed up offer a mobile version of Outlook branded as Vodafone OfficeLive.
