NEWS So the Xbox is here and everybody is very excited about it. Well, some of you are. Most of our readers seem less than enthusiastic about the launch, although it's probably safe to assume that the enthusiasts are at home playing with their consoles, so we may not hear from them for some time. For the committed fan, some branches of Electronics Boutique and Dixons opened at midnight to let desperate gamers get their hands on the Xbox, but it would seem you lot are holding onto your £300 - at least until you can Metal Gear Solid 2. Dixons is keeping quiet on numbers sold but claimed demand was in line with expectations. Here is some of the feedback we've received so far. It's not like Bill to miss a trick:
Rumours were rife that MS would bundle Sega Dreamcast emulation with the Xbox thus creating an immediate willing user base with lots of great games and the desire to upgrade. Have MS missed a great opportunity? I think so. Four words:
Metal Gear Solid Two. Sorry Bill. (That's six words. Ed) Three more words:
Metal Gear Solid Two. Xbox release May (...and that's seven words. Ed - you guys need an abacus not an Xbox) It's big and ugly:
Well Nintendo have managed to come in last again. And MS has been slow to get a machine to match the PS2. I already have a PS2 and a PC why do I need an Xbox? None of the games are good enough yet (Gran Turismo 3 anyone?) and PCs have better graphics. The Xbox is big and ugly. Hello? What's wrong with a PC?
I guess that a vast number of those purchasing an Xbox (or PS2 or what have you) already own a PC with decent memory and video card, most likely with TV Out, DVD, joystick and the works, as well as the games, which functionally perform as well as, if not better than on a console.
Perhaps I've missed something?
