NEWS The annual US Big Brother awards have singled out Larry Ellison as the worst corporate violator of personal privacy. Run by Privacy International, the awards aim to name and shame governments, individuals and corporations who threaten personal privacy. Oracle's software is used to run a US government database that has the potential to form the basis of a national identification system. The awards also singled out US Attorney General John Ashcroft as "Worst Government Official" after he went on a wiretapping frenzy in the wake of the 11 September attacks. The UK version of the awards was held on 4 March. The winners were Richard Wilson, Cabinet Secretary, The National Criminal Intelligence Service, Norwich Union, The Department of Education and Skills, and the National ID card scheme.
