Trekkers needed for IT charity fundraiser

Nothing to do with Captain Kirk...

NEWS IT Relief - the industry charity dedicated to fundraising for the benefit of children - is organising a trek down the Yangtze River in November this year. The charity is looking for plucky volunteers to join the trek, which gives those privileged enough to work in this exciting, dynamic and (relatively) well-paid sector the chance to give something back to society. There is a £300 non-refundable registration fee, and trekkers will need to raise a further £2,700 (minimum) in sponsorship in order to participate. The area in which the trek will take place is going to be flooded in 2003 as part of a dam-building project, so this will be the last chance to see a stunning part of the world - and raise money for a good cause in the process. Graham Hayday, editor of silicon.com and a member of the IT Relief committee, said: "Although times are hard, people in this industry must have some spare cash - or failing that, some spare time to go on the trek. This is a great opportunity to have a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and do something for kids with disabilities. They really do need our help. "Three thousand pounds sounds like a lot of money, but most companies spend more than that on their Christmas parties. Why not divert the cash into something a lot more worthwhile? Or maybe you could persuade a key contact to sponsor you? There are many ways of raising that amount very easily." Anyone interested should see http://www.itrelief.org/gorges/flash.htm
