NEWS Friends Reunited is launching sites in Europe and South Africa. Friends Reunited's founders, Steve and Julie Pankhurst, are planning franchise deals to set up versions in France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Spain and South Africa. The site, which puts people in touch with former school and college friends, was the dot-com success story of 2001. The site has attracted more than six million registered users since its launch in 2000 and recorded over 200 million page impressions last month. Steve Pankhurst told the BBC: "There are a lot of copycat sites out there already abroad, but it is all about getting to the critical mass first, which we did in the UK." The US market is already dominated by classmates.com.
