Kneads better IT

NEWS Warburtons has rolled out a multi-site SAP project with the help of consultancy Diagonal and services company Anix, which integrated IBM Netfinity servers for the bakery outfit. The overall project, including a wide area network running Citrix software, is worth several million pounds, with the Anix IBM side worth £750,000. Colin Saunders, IT director at Warburtons, said: "This is all part of a business project about putting us on a platform to expand the business. SAP was chosen for cost reduction and to improve business processes. It's the biggest IT upgrade in the company's history." Saunders said the baker's board had been sympathetic to the overhaul, understanding that the separate systems at each of the company's 11 existing bakeries could only take the business so far. Warburtons operates in Scotland, the north-west of England and the midlands. "We needed the IT to support our vision of becoming Britain's favourite baker," Saunders added.
