NEWS BT has beaten off competition from Deloitte Consulting and LogicaCMG to win a £25m e-learning contract with the Ministry of Defence (MoD).
The Defence E-Learning Delivery and Management Capability (DELDMC) contract will provide a central department-wide learning system available to up to 300,000 users.
The project was conceived following the Defence Training Review, which criticised the MoD for being slow to exploit new technology to support education and training.
Essentially the DELDMC will be a central system to host, manage and deliver any e-learning packages, including internet and intranet courses or CD-Rom packages bought by the MoD.
Initially the DELDMC will be available to MoD employees and the UK regular forces and is scheduled for a phased introduction later this year following detailed negotiations with BT.
Lord Bach, minister for defence procurement, said the project will allow the MoD to implement the training requirement recommendations from the DTR quickly and at a reduced cost to the taxpayer.

The BT / MindLeaders courses are very good quality. The MoD made the right decision.
