But won't say how much...

NEWS Linux network specialist Novell swooped into the UK to pick up web services consultancy Salmon.

The billion-dollar company is not disclosing what it is paying for the Watford-based web specialist, nor will it talk about Salmon’s turnover. The UK firm has around 130 staff, both permanent and contract.

Novell UK MD Steve Brown said: "Salmon have broad skills in web services and a European presence in carrying out client work. Insurance is a good market for them and they are on good terms with Lloyds. They also have retail experience."

"With our own European presence they will have a more far-reaching network in Europe."

Novell will be making a significant investment to develop its web services operation in Europe. Its other specialities are in security and identification management and SUSE Linux. Novell bought German-based SUSE in January of this year for $210m.
