Location, location, location...

NEWS The Odeon cinema chain has signed up speech recognition firm Telephonetics for their new booking line in a $30m deal.

Telephonetics will provide the speech recognition technology for the revamped booking line, which will act as a "virtual call centre" according to the company, which will take bookings and give out film information.

To book tickets, the system can either get the customer's chosen cinema location by recognising the place name by voice or taking a guess from the user's dialling code.

Odeon's contact centre operations manager Andy Foster said that customers preferred the voice driven system to getting film information through touch tone phones.
