Trial Microsoft's cloud SQL Azure Database - for free

Taking on Amazon for a piece of the cloud

In a move to capture a piece of the cloud computing pie, Microsoft announced its upcoming Azure Services Platform back in October last year. Today it unleashed a free trial of SQL Azure Database, the software giant's cloud-based relational database.

SQL Azure Database is a key part of the Azure Services Platform and sets out to rival Amazon's SimpleDB.

The free trial will last until November, at which point the full service will be rolled out. ZDNet UK has the full story on the SQL Azure Database preview.
