Performance Comparison: Intel® Itanium® 2-Based Servers Running SAS 9

Overview The Cornell Institute for Social and Economic Research (CISER) set out to increase the performance of some of its processing- and memory-intensive SAS applications. CISER had to acquire the necessary resources to run 64-bit SAS 9.0 when it became available for the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 operating system. Yet more than 600 of its researchers still needed broad-ranging 32-bit support. This caused CISER to find an economical way to manage both 64-bit and 32-bit user communities by requiring more power. This white paper details CISERÂ’s findings from testing done with SAS 9.0 and SAS 9.1 on Intel Itanium 2 based-servers, and how resources were affected.
