Education Consortium Replaces Mainframe With Windows-Based Servers

Overview Technology Information and Educational Services (TIES) is saving up to 30 percent annually in operating system and database software costs alone since deploying its TIES Student Information System on three Intel-based Unisys ES7000 32-processor enterprise servers running the Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter Server operating system and Microsoft SQL Server 2000. The Student Information System provides centralized access to up-to-the minute student and school information. TIES reports that the solution provides mainframe-class reliability, with no operating system downtime or hardware failures in the nearly two years since the launch. The combination of Microsoft software and Unisys hardware has made the TIES Student Information System more affordable to school districts that want self-hosted solutions.
