Education was seen as the key to sustainable regeneration and in 1999, a unique 15-year initiative was founded to address these issues. Driven by the Education Action Zone, the programme is supported by a range of other government initiatives. From day one, Microsoft has been helping to implement Information Communications Technology (ICT) to promote social inclusion, improve attainment in local schools and give local people access to professional training opportunities.
