Migrating Novell Directory Services to Active Directory
Category: Software and Web Development
Tags: active directory, network, data
Overview While building a new tree from scratch can be a complex task, migrating existing directory information from another service presents its own set of challenges. Many networks are currently using Novell Directory Services (NDS) as their primary storehouse for directory service information, and with the release of Windows NT Server 5.0, there will be a need to migrate that NDS information to the new Active Directory service. Windows NT Server 5.0 includes a Directory Services Migration Tool (DS Migrate) that makes it possible to import NDS information across the network and model it as needed before committing the new data to the actual Active Directory tree. This paper examines the procedures involved in this migration process and the operation of the DS Migrate program.
