Engineering Calculation Management Software Vendor Transforms Product Line

Overview Mathsoft has been evolving from a desktop tool vendor to a company with a larger role in engineering-driven organizations. It needed to revamp the Mathcad calculation engine, and replace the proprietary Mathcad file format with an open and interoperable one. It also needed to develop a way to centrally manage Mathcad worksheets for reuse, auditing, oversight, publishing, and collaboration. The company decided that the Microsoft .NET Framework was a perfect match to its needs. Mathsoft rewrote the Mathcad computation engine in Microsoft Visual C++ as a compiler for the .NET Framework, changed its file format to XML, and implemented Designate in Microsoft Visual C# using Microsoft ASP.NET.
