What Happens in a Crisis?: A Case for a Network Media Appliance

Overview There is little disagreement that future video surveillance solutions will be built around digital imaging. Argument may still exist about the timing, but not the result. What is still open to debate is the technology that will be used to tie the various pieces together. The general consensus is that the organization's existing network infrastructure will be used. What have not been adequately analyzed are the implications of these assumptions on current IT systems, and particularly the behavior of these systems in the midst of a security crisis. If one calculates the impact of using the IT network to transport and switch digital security video he or she will readily understand the magnitude of the problem to be unleashed on the wary IT organizations.
